Questions & answers

What Atlas is, why it's different, and who it's for. Search below, or browse — tap any question to open it.

The basics
What exactly is Atlas?

Atlas is a private AI chief of staff — one assistant built around a single person: you. It knows your world (your calendar, messages, people, places, and commitments), remembers what matters, and quietly runs the operational side of your life. It's not a chatbot you prompt for answers; it's an operating layer that gets things done.

The basics
Why does Atlas exist? What problem does it solve?

Life has too many moving parts — appointments, follow-ups, bookings, people to keep up with, small promises that slip. General AI can answer questions, but it doesn't know you, so you spend your time supplying context and chasing loose ends.

Atlas exists to carry that load. Because it already holds the context, a single sentence is enough — and because it works in the background, things get handled before they become a problem.

vs. chatbots
What makes Atlas different from ChatGPT and other AI chatbots?

A chatbot starts every conversation blank — you bring the context. Atlas starts already knowing your world: who your people are, what's on your calendar, where you've been, what you've promised. So "book the same place we went after Alex's graduation" simply works.

It also acts — it books, messages, calls, schedules, and reminds, not just answers — and it's proactive, surfacing what matters before you think to ask.

vs. assistants
How is Atlas different from Siri, Alexa, or Google Assistant?

Those are command-takers: one instruction, one action, no memory of your life. Atlas is a chief of staff — it understands a whole sentence in the context of your world, runs multi-step tasks on its own, follows up over days, and learns your preferences as it goes.

The deeper difference: they're built for a billion people. Atlas is built for one — you.

The basics
Isn't this just another chatbot with a nicer wrapper?

No. A chatbot is a blank text box. Atlas maintains a living picture of your world, acts across your real tools — calendar, email, messaging, reservations — and works in the background, not only when you open the app. The chat is just the doorway; the assistant behind it knows you and does things.

How it works
What does it mean that Atlas "knows my world"?

Atlas keeps one connected picture — a Life Graph — of your people, places, trips, events, and commitments, built from the things you already use. It reasons over that graph, so you never re-explain who "Ron" is, which calendar is the family one, or where you like to eat. See how it works.

Proactive
What makes Atlas "proactive"?

Atlas works even when you're not looking. It watches for the things that matter, reminds you before they slip, drafts what you'll need, chases replies you're waiting on, and offers a well-timed nudge — always something you can act on, never noise. You set the boundaries; it does the rest quietly.

Who it's for
Who should consider Atlas?

Anyone with a lot to keep track of and not enough time to manage it — founders and executives, busy parents, people juggling a demanding job and a full personal life. If you've ever wished you had a chief of staff for your own life, not just your work, that's exactly who Atlas is for.

Who it's for
Who is Atlas not for?

If you want a general-purpose research chatbot, a coding copilot, or a shared tool for your whole team, Atlas isn't that. It's a private, single-owner assistant for running one person's life — deliberately built around you, not a workspace.

Control
Will Atlas do things without my permission?

You're always in control. Reading and checking are free; anything that acts in the world — sending a message, booking a table, placing a call — waits for your explicit approval and shows you exactly what it will do first. You can grant standing permission for routine things (like a weekly booking), always on your terms and always reversible.

Privacy
How private is my data?

Atlas is built around one person — you — and your world stays yours. It shares only what a task genuinely needs (a meeting goes out to others as a free/busy block, not its title), never compiles your life for anyone else, and is designed so you stay in control of every outward action. More on security & privacy.

Privacy
Is my data mixed in with other people’s?

No — and not in the usual “we keep accounts separated” sense. There is no shared system to be separated inside. Each Atlas is its own application with its own database. No shared store, no customer table, no console that looks across users, because there is no “across users.”

Another installation could fail, or be broken into, and yours would never know it happened.

Privacy
Does Atlas train on my data?

No. Atlas doesn’t train on your data — it doesn’t train at all. It calls the same off-the-shelf model everyone else calls, and that model forgets you the moment it answers.

What makes your Atlas different is everything around the model: what it knows about your people, your places, your habits, the promises you’ve made. That lives in your installation and nowhere else. Nothing you tell Atlas makes anyone else’s smarter.

Privacy
Will two people who install Atlas get the same assistant?

On day one, yes — every Atlas ships identical. After that they diverge, and they never converge again. Yours spends its time learning your world; theirs learns theirs.

It doesn’t get better for everyone. It gets better for you.

Capabilities
What can Atlas actually do for me?

A lot — and it keeps growing. Find and book restaurants; manage your calendar and travel time; send email and messages across your accounts; keep track of your people and what you've promised them; capture notes and meetings; watch for things and follow up; and run multi-step tasks end-to-end.

The User Manual walks through everything, and the capability matrix lists it in detail.

Getting started
Why do I bring my own AI key?

Atlas runs on your own AI provider key, so the intelligence is yours — your account, your usage, no middle layer sitting between you and the model repackaging your data. It's part of what keeps Atlas genuinely private and single-owner.

Getting started
Why is Atlas iPhone-only right now?

Atlas is a native iOS app today so it can do the deep, reliable, always-with-you things a chief of staff needs. Other platforms may follow; for now, it lives on your iPhone.
